the image looks like otacilla severus and the reverse is similar to her denarii but the words dont seem to be what I'd expect. they look like "heretous cilliane "

yep, probably. replicas are sold but obvious. I doubt anybody is going to a lot of trouble to fake them at that price. at higher prices sure and fake them and find ways of abrading and antiquing them and so forth. but at the $200 level thats a lot of work.

I could be wrong but I would stick to buying anything over $50 from a good vendor who is not liable to sell fakes.

there are a ton of supply of roman denarii and alexandrian and seleukid coins so I dont imagine there are a lot of fakes in the lower price range. the higher price range is where fakes would be worth the troulbe.

Well it seems to me something that old would command a higher premium, but I am not a numismatics person

I thought that too but its just a question of supply and demand.

its like this-- I got a bunch of silver 2,3,5 mark coins from German Reich, Prussia, etc-- they're prolific. It was a big economy! In the same era, American silvers can go for way more than equivalent size German coins. Supply-- higher; demand is greater for US coins here, too, than foreigns or ancients.
